There are nine cottages which can accommodate 44 plus cots/z-beds. Four and five star lake district holiday cottages, completely restyled by Cumbria's top design team, using contemporary local furniture and local artists to bring the wonderful buildings alive. A superb base for exploring the Lakes by foot, bike or car, sampling great Cumbrian food and drink, or enjoying Cumbria's finest membership-only leisure club. FAMILY FREEDOM
The family cottages at Monkhouse Hill have been designed with space, flexibility and safety in mind. Spacious upstairs living areas, with well equipped kitchens, make the most of the panoramic views and vaulted roofs.

Order a box of traditional children's toys (from three age ranges) to collect when you arrive - no charge, just a deposit. There is also a good range of family games in each cottage.
We also have a great adventure playground with swings, tower, rope frame, slide, tunnel and suspension bridge. The playground is for children aged from about 2 to 9.

All cottages come complete with digital television with video and DVD players.

All the family will enjoy the indoor Games Room, with full size table tennis, pool and table football.

Pre-school special: With a young family ourselves, we've tried to offer a wide range of extras to make sure that your stay is safer, less hassle and more fun.
The basics - wooden cots (with duvet or blankets), highchairs, and stairgates - can all be booked in advance and set up for your arrival. Then we have a 'baby & toddler rescue cupboard' available with just about everythinh you might have forgotten, or not had space to bring.

Finally, don't forget that you have full free of charge access to the fantastic facilities at the North Lakes Spa in Penrith with swimming and paddling pools and a games room with Nintendo Wii and air hockey.

HOUSE PARTY IN STYLE
Monkhouse Hill was recognised by an Excellence in England Award for pioneering the concept of large cottages for groups of families to holiday together. We offer large cottages sleeping up to 14, or combinations of adjacent cottages which provide more freedom but which are configured for everyone to be able to eat together.

WEDDING PARTIES
Weddings at Monkhouse Hill offer a unique and memorable alternative to a conventional hotel based function. Spending a week (or a weekend, depending on the time of year) together in the Lake District lets you include a wide variety of activities, entertainment and dining, after which everyone returns home both refreshed and reinvigorated (and in some cases married).
The wedding itself may take place at one of a range of nearby licensed locations, such as Greystoke Castle or the famous Gretna Green, followed by a reception at Monkhouse Hill.

Another option is to get married quietly at a nearby Registry Office on the Friday or Saturday of your arrival, and then have a Reaffirmation Ceremony (also performed by the Registrar) in front of your family and friends during the reception at Monkhouse Hill on Saturday or Sunday.

A marquee for 45 to 150 people can be sited alongside the cottages - the atmosphere of guests mingling between their cottages and the function is truly unique.

For functions with marquees we do require you to book all nine cottages (which can accommodate 44 plus cots/z-beds).

CREATIVE CONFERENCES
Self-catering may not be an obvious choice for a conference or meeting. But at Monkhouse Hill we've created a real alternative to the standard hotel conference experience. Spacious 4 and 5 star cottages instead of hotel bedrooms, informal meetings on leather sofas in luxurious living areas or around a giant oak table, a wide range of catering options from 'DIY' to your own resident chef, and outside hot tubs for the occasional 'breakout' session. And all for a significantly lower cost per head than most conference hotels.
Most of the normal 'conference extras' are of course available - mobile broadband (no charge), good mobile reception, flipcharts, TV and screen projection, permanently available beverages etc.

Delegates all have their own bedroom; bathrooms are shared between two. Alternatively we can quote for an 'own bathroom' option for fewer delegates if required. Most of the lounge / meeting rooms have panoramic views across the Eden Valley - an inspiring backdrop to any development or decision making event.

SPA INDULGENCE
The initial draw to this part of the country might be the spectacular landscape, together with the chance to escape from hectic everyday lifestyles. But this doesn't mean that we can't offer you a wide range of relaxing and invigorating spa experiences to enhance, or even to recover from, your enjoyment of Cumbria's landscape.

Chapel Beck and Great Calva have walk-in 'hot stone' saunas. Brae Fell will have the same later in 2009.

Mickle Rigg has a water jet spa bath, Brae Fell has a chromatherapy spa bath. Fisher Gill and Great Calva both have air jet spa baths.

All guests at Monkhouse Hill have full free-of-charge access to the superb leisure facilities at the exclusive North Lakes Spa in Penrith, about 15 minutes drive from the cottages.
The facilities include a 13 metre flat-deck swimming pool designed for both exercise swimming and family fun, with an adjacent paddling pool. To relieve any stresses of the holiday there is also a large steam room, a hot whirlpool spa and twin Finnish saunas.

Exercise enthusiasts will find one of the Lake District's best equipped gymnasiums, with all the latest state of the art (and easy to use) equipment. Qualified fitness instructors are on-hand if required. A wide range of group fitness classes, from Pilates or Swiss Ball to Spinning or Body Combat, take place throughout the week free of charge.
